Jaipur the capital of Indian state of Rajasthan offers a lot of tourist attractions. Rajasthan was known as a land of heroes. This fort is also a popular tourist attractions in Jaipur. This fort was built by King of Jaipur Sawai Raja Jai Singh in the year 1734.

This fort in Jaipur was very important for the defense of Jaipur. Initially this Jaipur fort was also known as Tiger Fort. This fort was named after the prince Nahar. There is an interesting story behind the naming of this fort. During the time of construction of Nahargarh Fort it faced a lot of obstruction. It was thought that this obstruction was done by the spirit of Nahar. It was widely believed that this place is haunted by this spirit. Idea of taking help from the persons having diabolical skill was also thought by the royal family. At last a tantrik ( An Indian religious person with diabolical knowledge) prayed to the spirit to be calm.

The spirit became agreed to leave the fort on condition that the fort will be christened after him.

These days this fort is visited by visitors coming from different parts of the world. You can have a wonderful view of the city from the Nahargarh Fort. This fort was constructed so that it can make a strong defense for the state along with other forts like Jaigarh Fort and amber Fort. View of Man Sagar Lake can be enjoyed from this fort. This fort also helped to establish the British rule in India. Europeans soldiers and civilians took shelter in this fort during the time of mutiny.

Many parts of this fort was ruined after a few years from its construction. Nahargarh Fort was rebuilt in the year 1868. At that time the structure of this fort was also extended. Rooms in Nahargarh Fort are very big in size. These rooms were linked by corridors. Mural painting is one of the main features of Rajastahni art. Walls of this fort was designed with mural paintings. Still some walls of Nahargarh Fort
bear the mark of Rajasthani wall paintings. Frescoes are still in tact on many walls of the fort building.

Maharaja Sawai Man Singh had 9 wives. There were 9 big apartments in Nahargarh Fort for these 9 wifes. All the rooms of Nahargarh Fort are well decorated and very meticulously planned rooms. This fort in Jaipur was the hunting residence of the kings of Jaipur.
